Infection Preventionist

Full-time, non-exempt position. Monday-Friday schedule.
Starting Range for this position is: $32.50 - 39.50.
This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Infection Prevention and Control Program (IPCP) in a healthcare facility, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. The position requires collaboration with leadership, medical directors, and public health agencies to prevent and manage infections among residents, staff, visitors, and volunteers.
Qualifications Required: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as any required licenses or certifications
Education: Possess primary professional training in nursing, medical technology, microbiology, epidemiology, or other related field; and have completed specialized training in infection prevention and control as specified in F880 of Appendix PP.
Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
• Hold, at minimum, a current, unencumbered active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the State of California. RN's are welcome to apply.
• APIC Certification in infection prevention and control is preferred, but not required.
Experience: Be qualified by education, training, experience, and/or certification in infection control and have sufficient knowledge to perform the role;
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or other related health care facility.
• Preferably, at least 2 years of working experience as an Infection Preventionist in a nursing care facility or other related health care facility, but not required.
• Possess the background and ability to fully carry out the requirements of the IP based on the needs of the resident population, such as interpreting laboratory data.

Education & Training: Conduct annual and as-needed training for staff and residents on infection prevention practices.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure facility compliance with CMS (§483.80) and other public health regulations. Must remain current with infection prevention and control issues and be aware of national organizations, guidelines, and those from national/state/local public health authorities (emerging pathogens).
Outbreak Response: Investigate outbreaks and take corrective actions.
Antibiotic Stewardship: Oversee responsible antibiotic use among residents.
Employee Health: Manage staff vaccination programs, TB screenings, and physicals.
Committee Participation: Serve on various quality and safety committees.
Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of infection incidents and outcomes.
Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements: Includes walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), and possible exposure to communicable diseases.
