Title: Director of Finance & Administration Location: Atlanta, GA (hybrid, on-site at least 3 days per week) Reports to: President & CEO Compensation: $100,000–$150,000 per year plus equity participation (full-time)
Canary Hiring Technologies is hiring a hands-on Director of Finance and Administration in Atlanta, GA. This full-time, hybrid role combines Controller, FP&A, and operations work for a multi-entity software company that is growing through acquisitions. You'll own our books, cash, and reporting. You'll also be the CEO's partner in running the company better. This is a doer role: you'll close the month yourself, build the models yourself, and fix the processes yourself.
About us: Canary Hiring Technologies is a Georgia-based software company serving high-turnover industries like retail, grocery, and manufacturing. Our product lines cover onboarding, applicant tracking, and background checks. We've grown through several acquisitions. Now we need one person to bring finance and administration across all of them into a single, well-run operation.
What you'll do
Finance and accounting
• Own the monthly close for all entities, with a target of closing within 10 business days. Manage consolidations and intercompany activity.
• Manage cash, AR and collections, AP, and the 13-week cash forecast.
• Build and maintain the annual budget, forecasts, and operating models.
• Report on revenue, gross margin, and customer economics by product line. This includes ARR, churn, and retention.
• Produce clear monthly reporting for ownership, lenders, and investors.
• Work with outside CPAs on tax, audit or review, and any purchase accounting.
• Keep the books clean, documented, and ready for diligence at all times.
Acquisition integration
• Move acquired companies onto one chart of accounts, accounting system, billing process, and payroll and benefits platform.
• Lead the migration of an acquired company's NetSuite instance. This includes evaluating whether to consolidate onto a single NetSuite instance or move to QuickBooks Enterprise, then running the cutover.
• Build a repeatable integration playbook for future acquisitions.
• Support financial diligence and modeling on new acquisition targets.
Running the company better
• Build the KPI dashboards that leadership uses to run the business each week.
• Find and fix inefficiencies, including unprofitable customers, pricing gaps, vendor overspend, and manual processes.
• Partner with the CEO and department leaders on headcount planning, pricing, and resource decisions.
• Choose and implement finance and operations systems, such as the GL, billing, expense management, and payroll.
Administration
• Run payroll, benefits, and HR administration, either directly or through a PEO.
• Manage insurance, corporate compliance, licenses, and state registrations across entities.
• Own vendor contracts, renewals, and procurement.
• Keep entity records and corporate governance documents organized.

Requirements/Responsibilities
Who you are

Required

• 8+ years in accounting and finance, including at least 3 years as a Controller, Finance Manager, or head of finance at a growing company.
• Hands-on experience running a month-end close and multi-entity consolidations yourself.
• Experience integrating at least one acquired business, covering its books, systems, payroll, or benefits.
• Strong financial modeling skills and advanced Excel or Google Sheets.
• Working knowledge of GAAP, cash management, and payroll, benefits, and HR compliance.
• You're comfortable as a team of one, or close to it, and you enjoy doing the work, not just reviewing it.
• You explain numbers in plain English to non-finance people and push back when the data says to.

Preferred

• CPA or MBA.
• Experience at a SaaS or software company, including recurring-revenue metrics.
• Experience at a PE-backed, acquisitive, or multi-location company.
• NetSuite experience is strongly preferred, especially implementations, data migrations, or consolidating multiple instances. QuickBooks Enterprise or Online experience is also valuable, along with billing and payroll platforms.
• You've led a systems migration or built a finance function from scratch.
• Background in operations, process improvement, or business analysis alongside accounting.

What this role is not

This isn't a hands-off management role. There's no large team underneath you, and the work isn't delegated. If you prefer to set strategy and have others execute, this won't be a fit. If you like owning outcomes end to end and making a company run better, it will.

Compensation and benefits

• Base salary of $100,000–$150,000, depending on experience.
• Equity participation in the company.
• Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus paid time off.
• Hybrid schedule, with at least 3 days per week on-site in Atlanta to work closely with the partners.
