Comal Berkeley seeks Assistant General Manager

Comal has been a community mainstay since opening in downtown Berkeley in 2012. Recognized for its excellence by Michelin Bib Gourmand & SF Chronicle Top 100, Comal serves delicious regional Mexican food specializing in masa-based dishes, wood-fired hearth cooking, craft cocktails and agave spirits. Comal’s food is seasonal, and ingredient driven. The simple, yet refined food is complemented by a stellar cocktail list, a well-priced wine list and a handpicked, seasonally changing beer list. We are a large restaurant and aim to have broad appeal. As such, our food is reasonably priced, especially given the quality of ingredients, and the menu is designed to be festive and encourage sharing.
AGM Job Description
The primary role of the AGM is to collaborate with the GM and Chefs to build and lead a cohesive, equitable, and professional service team. The AGM will help create and train on operational processes whose results create an exceptional guest experience while maintaining cost/revenue efficiencies for the company. The main AGM focus will be the management of daily dining room service, guest interaction and staff training with additional responsibility for admin and ordering.

*Conversational Spanish is highly desirable

AGM responsibilities include:
*Contribute to food and beverage education, train staff on steps of service, contribute to the development of systematic training for all floor positions
*Managing the flow of service through calibration of reservations and walk in guests with *kitchen and service capacity
*Managing customer service by getting to know our guests and their preferences, troubleshoot errors or guest complaints
*Looking to continually improve systems for optimal flow and efficiency of service
*Assisting with interviewing, hiring and training of service staff
*Assisting in managing daily schedule changes for FOH hourly employees, audit and correct punch reports, log PTO and sick pay for biweekly payroll
*Managing Toast for menu changes and payment processing
*Conducting ongoing training of service staff with an eye toward their career path

Salary 67,000 to 70,000

Benefits include 10 days PTO (15 days after 5 years), Kaiser Silver health insurance, a quarterly bonus program, employer matching 401(k)
